University of the Philippines, Los Baños

Located in Los Baños, the Science and Technological City of Laguna, is one of the campuses of the premier university in the country, the University of the Philippines. The UP Los Baños campus is the biggest among the 12 campuses of UP (including UP Open University). It is also the second oldest as it has been established in March 6, 1909 by the American botanist named Edwin Copeland (for whom the new campus gymnasium was named after). The campus has land area of a total of 147 square kilometers.

UP Los Baños has a total of nine colleges, which are as follows:
• College of Agriculture
• College of Arts and Sciences
• College of Development Communication
• College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology
• College of Economics and Management
• College of Forestry and Natural Resources
• College of Human Ecology
• College of Public Affairs
• College of Veterinary Medecine

UP Los Baños also serves as the guardian sentinel of the majestic Mount Makiling as it owns a huge portion of the mountain. Preserving the natural habitat of the endemic species of the mountain is the priority of the campus management.

The University of the Philippines is the most prestigious school in the country. Every year, around 800,000 hopefuls take the entrance exam known as the University of the Philippines College Admission Test or UPCAT. Among these, only around 8,000 students are accepted.
UP is proud to state that it offers the highest quality of education in the Philippines, hence only the upper percentile of exam takers are accepted in the specified degree course that a student chooses.

There are a lot of wonderful places to visit in the campus, including the Makiling Botanical Garden, Center for Philippines Raptors, Museum of Natural History, National Arts Center and Pook ni Maria Makiling. The UPLB Upper and Lower Grounds are nice parks where people like to play sports and have picnic.
